Once again the experience change abruptly from one day to the next; yesterday beeing very enjoyable with great running company - today one of those with the peculiar aggresive driving wich I have only experiensed here in Usa: A couple of times during todays 40km run cars would swerve out to the side of road to force me further away from the tarmac. Strange, as I already run off' the road itself. Its a puzzeling scenario and a bit hard to understand as I can't see that a person running peacefully next to the road would pose any problem to the drivers. On the other hand there has in full measure been streatches especially in South America (Argentina and Equador most of all) where the daily run next to the highways was a fair leap away from beeing "safe" - yet I've not experiensed aggressivity like this where drivers go out of their way to create a dangerous situation at the side of the road. Odd !
But its important to see the big picture, that its perhaps four drivers out of the hundreds and hundreds of cars that pass by me each day. And, as I hope you noticed in for example yesterdays report or the long streatch of running up through Florida: not only friendly company but excellent support wich I also have experiensed. And that people go out of their way to lend a hand to the run; to join me on the daily running, offer a place to stay; even sponsorship as with the support-car I use over here !
It may sound unlikely - but in a sense this situation of todays run reminds me of running through the Middle East, a few years & continents back on the route of world run 2. Because also there a small number of people have given a whole culture a 'brand' of beeing agressive - when in fact running through their culture, step-by-running-step was one of the most kind and positive experienses I have had in both world run one and world run two !! I think the lesson perhaps is to be carefull not to judge people, cultures or regions by the bad actions of a few - but the peacefull and kind exsistence of the many.
