No magic - just good support :-)
Today I had another day of amazing turnout from the local running communities, finishing with about 20-25 runners joining in on the last few miles. It makes the dails running of this world run 2 a lot easier when you can exchange 'runners stories' and share the energy of running. I think this principle goes no matter if its a couple of runners sharing a 2 or 3 mile run, a long training session or running across contries and continents as here in the world run's. The dynamic and the "extra" it brings makes a huge difference and so far has made the last 350km out of the 32 000km much much easier than many of the previous months and years of the run !
- So my BIG THANKS to all the runners who came out running with me today, the Florida Ultra Runners club who organises the support in this area, and also the local running store "Tri Running Sports" who invited me for a talk later on and insisted in supporting me with a bit of running equiptment that was sorely missed. Without them, and ofcouse my sponsors; a run like this isnt possible to do !
During todays run a few runners commented on how it was possible to do about a marathon a day for this long; and not least why/how I could be running on' today after having done a 50miles (85km on the gps) trail race yesterday.
I'd have to say that there is no "magic" or "great talented super-runner" involved in doing eighter the first world run or this second run around the world. There is just a lot of good support - and the human body's ability to adapt to almost any enviroment on earth and any challenge we give ourselves. I am no different from any other runner, and certainly no "super runner" ! :-)
- Sometimes you'll hear of runners how do for example a marathon a day for a few weeks, a months or perhaps two, or similar. And having a sport, ultra running, that is largely unknown to the main media, these run's can get a label as super-human efforts. When infact many elite runners in our sport would do that as "training" before big competetion or the annual world championships on 24hours held by the International Association of Ultrarunners (a part of IAAF - the international athletics federation). While I admire the media-skills of "show runs" where doing high mileage or many races is portrait as exceptional super-human feats then its important to remember that this is something the human body can adapt to, without too much difficulty !
I dont run very fast during my daily streatches of the world run. I make sure to rest. And doing a 30km or 19-20mile run as today after the trail race yesterday... Is no different than for example an East African child running to school and back for a few hours, each day, each year. No magic - just human adaptation :-)
So; please dont consider this world run 2 more than an example of what EVERYONE CAN DO :-) I realise that not everyone has the time or priority for it, but you do have the ability wich we all have in the way our body has developed to endure immense challeges through evolution !
NB:
The reports for the last few days before the trail race will be uploaded later today along w. the gps-tracks. I was a little bit too focused on the upcoming race to spend time uploading them :-) The pictures and a few video-clips will follow too.
