- If you look through todays pictures I think you will get a good idea of the rapid change along the route even over a short distance like the 31km's of todays stage:

From the semi-desert, through tropical landscapes with agriculture, poor suburbs with rubble and buildings melting into one and into the more wealthy centres of the larger rural cities of Northern Peru. All, in a steaming humid setting - which doesnt go that easy on a Scandinavian runner ;-)
