10 days
After the quite worrying 20km stage yesterday it was a pleasant relief that the legs and the injuries now seem to respond positively. Apparently it was at the last moment !
I am now running at 1400m alt.and have the highest part of the Andes Mountains straight ahead. To my immideate left today (hidden in clouds) is
Volcan San Jose 5856m & Volcan Maipu 5323.
The Andes-name itselfcomes from the indigious Quechua peoples word "anti" - meaning "high crest". It is the 2. highest mountain range in the world and has the highest volcano in the world, Ojos del Salado 6893m along w. 50 other volcanoes above 6000m. !
In length it spands 7000km, 200-700km wide, making it the worlds longest mountain range as well.
Its highest peak is Mt. Aconcagua 6962m - and if my legs permits me, in 10days from now my route leads me directly past this mountain on my run across the 4000m alt. pass between Argentina and Chile :-)
.. A Challenge I look forward to like a little child looks forward to christmas !! And perhaps it is chistmas for an ultrarunner to 'do friendly battle' w. the Andes mountainchain. Atleast I have run 3000km from Punta Arenas and in total 24 000km from the start in Norway to get here where the battle starts..
- So hopefully I should be in shape for it, even w. a few injuries ;-)
