Gaucho alert !
"Venga, Venga !!" -This was our wake up call this morning around 8.30 as the sun began to gain power after another pleasantly cool night.
The yell wasnt coming from the english tent, I quickly realised, and thus I decided to turn another page in that nights very calm & cozy sleep :-)
..We had as usual on the hundreds of km between cities camped on the vast open Pampas; this time a bit past one of the many open gates to seemingly deserted "estacios" (farms) of endless acres of wildgrowing grass & thorny scrubbery.
But deserted it wasnt. Yesterday we saw a beautifull large falcon hunting undisturbed, then some sheep followed by 3-4 wild horses coming right up to our small camp. This morning it was a dog and his owner; a gaucho (Argentinian cowboy). They seemed determined, since they returned around 9.30.
The gentleman, high on his horse and well into his 60ties judging by his wrincled & weatherbeaten face, stopped between our tents and gave us a Long look. A few minutes went by; silence. I tried a "bournas dias !" as an opening. He moved his head slightly with the clear expression of disapproval. Then, in a low firm woice, somethingwhere "Permeso" & "Chefe" was all I recognized. "Permission" & "Boss" !
I offered him a bisquit & a smile and we packed up as quickly as possible ;-))
