Before time begin ...
A few days ago I ran past Saint Julian where Magellan set foot on the South American continent in 1520. He by then made the first european contact w. Patagonias original people, the Tehuelche. When I passed through this historic meetingpoint I heard of Jurgen Ankebrands death, and it was important to commemorate him. But not its time to tell a little of this, first, people, of the areas we are at present running through.
I'll start with the Tehuelche creation myth of "how everything began, before the beginning, when the tuffacoeous - formed by the consolidation of volcanic ash producing rocks of varying colours, due to the presence of different minerals in the ash - where nothing, not even guuent (the word for land or earth) "
... KO-OCH always existed, he had neither birth nor beginning. No-one has ever seen him or will ever see him; he was like the air. No-one could touch him, no-one existed anyway, either to see or to touch him. From the very beginning KO-OCH was surrounded by darkness.
Since he lived alone surrounded by darkness ever since for ever, he couldnt see anything and this situation made him feel so sad that he began to cry for a long, long time, with a profound, interminable sobbing. He wept and wept, so long that no-one can count it or even imagine. Our minds arent capable of calculating it.
His tears were so many that they formed a sea where life began to form, to populate the future world which perhaps was already in KO-OCH's mind. This is why the sea became salty.
Seeing that the level of the sea was too high, he stopped his weeping. heaving a deep sigh. With this sigh, the wind was born. It blew and agitated the darkness, succeeding in dispelling it, so that KO-OCH could see clearly around himself. This caused him great joy and awakened in him a great desire to continue creating the rest of the elements of the world, which, once they had been brought together, would form the entire world.
This is the world and everything it contains, but it doesnt belong to us, nor to anyone.
KO-OCH did not give the things, trees, birds, pumas, guanacos, stones; everything, names. Things dont have names. The name of each thing or of each being is given to it by us in order to recognise it and distinguish it from the others.
"
- For our part, Jamie and I, nearly before time began this morning, we once again saw a small creature crawling around in the gravel. We know it by the name "scorpion" and you can see a picture of it along w. this report.
PS: Hopefully we will have signal again in 2-7 days. Untill then we enjoy the Silence and the Wind in the land of the Tehuelche myths :- )
