Running Christmas calendar, day 2:
One of the other motivations to enjoy running is the great Friendships that this sport can strike up. Since running is very little of an equiptment sport\' (if you have a good pair of runningshoes you\'r basically set !) the frame of meeting people are seldom wether they have the same job, education, lifestyle or belief as you, but that they happen to share the same running path ! Wich can be the ground for inspiring new friendships :-)
- or perhaps its just that longdistance running (or indeed ultrarunning) itself is so hard that you instantly respect the runner wich can keep up with you, no matter his or her background..
And during the last ca. 1400km I have been impressed how Reino from Finland has kept up on the daily stages. And got stronger for each day.
He doesnt say much and speaks just a little english - but in adapting to & mastering running through the hot and humid terrain of Central Mozambique he has truely amazed me with the amount of Sisu (persistent endurance) displayed ! Up to the point where I lately have had days where its difficult to keep up w. this businessman in his 60\'ties..
Its evident that the \'engine\' wich has got him through 1 1/2 month of very remote areas, running in style and taking interest in life in this contry, is his ability to appreciate the surroundings: Picking up some portugese language, exchanging greetings w. locals while running through the small villages; taking in the landscapes & weather w. a positive spirit. His main comment after todays stage before driving to Maputo to catch an airplane to Finland tomorrow was of how friendly and wellcoming the people of Mozambique had beento him :-)
