2009-06-12:Distance today: 20.0 km (Accumulated: 14026.8 km)
Elapsed time: 02:02:53
Country: Africa
Start 09:34am. At stone-pile 234km S. of Moyale, on the main rd. to Nairobi. 19c, allm. clear and m. wind.
Finish 18:51pm. At rockpile 7km S. of Marsabit. 26c, sunset and same.
... :-((( ... :-((( ... !!
A short stage, stopping for supplies and a shower in Moyale (only main city the next 150km) at noon and continuing the stage just before sunset at 17:55pm.
But, Not a good stage !
Just a few km before finish, at the S. pheremiter of the city, I fell at the police spikestrip wich is laid out across the road at most villages at entry & exit.
- A deep wound from the elbow and10cm down, on the right arm. The last 3km was run at the adrenaline of the chock and first at the supportcar I realized the amount of blood.
(I think there is a pic. of the arm at the live gps pic on the website. Not too nice a photo ;-)
Though, the accident was not due to the police: I simply was too axhausted from running through the volcanic desert and watching each step on the sharp rock trail (pretty rough on the support-car too btw) needing to make sure not to fall and cut up the hands. When reaching the more flat red-dust-road at Marsabit I didnt have more energy to pick up the legs. And there you have it :-((
To add to the days mood, the main mobile phone wich I use to transmit the live gps signal was broken in the hard fall. Now its lefthand manovering w. my old reserve phone trying to get the LifePilot to work on that and picking a few small stones from the wound...
