Start 11:49am., at Sudan side of Ethiopian - Sudanese border, at the flag of Sudan; 200m after km-marker 155. 38c, clear andl. wind. Finish 13:10pm., at "Woreta Hotel" on main str. of Metema on Eth. side of the border . 39c and same.
Nb: No gprs-signal for the live-gps coverage on eighter side of the border.
(Nb.2: to make it the standard-min. distance of 20km, a 17km jogg was done in the late afternoon, surveying the road ahead - where I found one spot w. gprs-signal wich was the only transmission today)

Ethiopia !
- Too early to have any real impression of this contry, nr. 16 during the world run 2. But, the bordertown of Metema for certain
makes a sudden contrast to the 1 1/2 month of running across Sudan and the 5months of running and living in muslim contries (Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan).

.. It appears as about half of the small wooden stalls along the dustyMetema main str. deals in selling of alcohol, disco' and 'nocturnal activities' !
The rest: black-market money exchange handlers milling around in front of their shady places, hotels w. many 'activities' going on and a few hard-to-find ordinary food shops ;-)

All in all creating quite a chaos !

Whereyou in most of the muslim contries (except Egypt.. !) get an impression that much focus in the daily life is on 'the above' - God, values and correct behavior - then atleast this place sure has focus on more worldly values..


Tomorrow I head for the savannah, nature and the silence of my tent :-)
