Our little team of Mohammad (driver from Wadi Halfa; and local footballplayer ! :-), Dee and Jamie (a backpacker team from Can. & Uk.) and myself running from water bottle to water bottle - have reached the first main point on the run across Sudan: Dongola.
We award ourselves, and the hardtested Toyota Landcruiser, a quiet day to wash the sand out and celebrate that the dust tracks are over; we should have full tarmac ahead untill Ethiopia. Hopefully.
Besides my 3 helpers and the team behind wr2, I especially have one person to Thank that I got the little bit tricky scenario of running through the remote Nubian desert to work smooth:
Jukka Salminen !
- Jukka is a fellow extreme journeyer, having bicycled straight through Africa and Sudan as part of a 50 000km bikeride. "Sisu" still grows in Finland... :-)
Besides beeing an Amazing challenge to complete Im in deep respect of the amountof work & precition wich he has put into a set of 'road notes' that guided me step by step from village to village, containing valuable desert-road surviving wisdom :-))
On todays run I met
Mohammad Icaeldin who in broad lines gave hints of the contries ahead; a sailor w. a lifetime of stories :-)
