Goto: 2008-11-21 2008-11-23 Middle East
2008-11-22:Distance today: 42.0 km (Accumulated: 6909.0 km)
Elapsed time: 04:59:48
Country: Middle East
Start 8:37am., at km-marker 715-02/011. 5c, allmost clear and l. wind.
Finish 15:23pm. At 715-03/007. 11c, halfclear and heawy wind.
A stage w. very heavy wind wich increased during the day ! Since its mainly flat highland at 1000m between Ankara and Konya, ca. 450km, the windspeed can pick up a bit.
After 5 hours of running and only doing just over 40k we decided it was enough fun. The last 20min. we made about 2km forward progress despite running at a good intensity so the wind got the last word; untill tomorrow.
Tomorrow is most likely Sarahs last day in the run. She has given her "All" and has used her motivation, energy and determination with unseen generosity for nearly 7000km and 5 1/2 months of running. I'm writing this report in my tent beside hers as the sun goes down behind the distant mountains; a sad moment I admit. But she is taking 'the end of the road' farbetter and is as usual emerged in meditation :-)
It has been great, difficult, fun, strange, thourghtfull and cheerfull months and thousands of km together through Scandinavia and europe to the doorstep of the Middle-East. I will miss her and so wil the run !
Yet it would be wrong and too selfish to push a runner along when the limit is reached; no reason to let injuries finish what can be finished in dignity :-)
Come monday I must prepare to face the remaining 33 000km and 2 1/2 y. alone. There is no guarantee I can handle that. But in friendly contries, or indeed in the world, you are never alone !
