Heritage
Today we passed an archeological site displaying some of the old landscape formations, shaped by the former ice-ages - part of the explanation of the sudden change of landscape just N. of Lachti a few days ago: from the rolling hills and hundreds of lakes, to the open farmlands and plain fields of Southern Finland.
During the run we also had a visit from Finland television, evening news. A little interview before start where Sarah mastered the art of keeping the answers short and clear and not least good :-).. For my part a lot more talk and a lot less substance ;-)
Later today our main contact in Finland, Esa Nurkka, accompanied us the last 7km into Porvo. He is attempting Sparthatlon (246km) in 8 weeks time and will set up an interview w. the new sports channel "Vo2" !
Media attention is good for the run and its sponsors, but its important, I think, to keep your feet on the ground as a sportsman.
To be a Sportsman it takes not only athletic effort but also to remain helpfull and never arrogant towards your fellow runners :-)
One of the qualities of ultrarunning I think is the helpfull spirit of all; from the first time runners to the
worlds leading multiday runners like Wolfgang Schwerk, Pekka Alto, Martina Hausmann, Cornelia Bullig and many more :-)
