Another day running in heavy South American traffic. Not much more to say about that. Or perhaps to add the joy of the growing chafing' on the inside of the legs (reg. yesterdays report). Not the most cheerfull of days - but, there has to be room for those kind of days too. The good thing is that its the exception that there is days where its motivationally all "uphill", so I try to appreciate that this puts the daily Joy of world running in a perspective where I doesnt take it for granted ! Yet, pure and total fun I cant say this day was with a truck convoy thundering by' every 2-3 minutes... ;-)
I should reach a minor road very soon though, as the main road leads leads to one of the largest ports of South America and the smaller road continues North-East - to the finish point of the South American part of my run !
Christmas calendar, day 17:
Todays injury-prevention advice is to try to include other sports in your running ! As you become better and stronger as a runner its easy to let the incerase in time spent on the running trails' mean that you start to use less time doing other sports. In my oppinion its a vital part of a good training program to allow time and energy to enjoy other sports - it will benefit your physical strength in general and often prevent that you get 'stuck' in overtraining with your running (wich is a safe way to eventually get injuries). Besides this I am certain that the body benefits from a varied training and use and not from the stereotype and monotomy when an athlete or sportsman/woman focuses only on one exercise for many years in a row.
- In this case though; while Im doing the world runs, it will have to stay at "good intentions" for my own part !! ;-) Since the energy left after the daily 3 to 6hours running, taking care of logistics, finding accomodation, food, updating the website and checking up on sponsors, media etc. ... is not really something wich encourages me to go out and play a few hours of basketball for example. Though, as it happens I did just that while running across Russia and Siberia during world run one; and I still remember how Sore my legmuscels were on the following stage ;-))
In world run two I do actually sometimes find time for other sports, but learning from the 'russian basketball experience', my favorite sport is tabletennis/ping-pong ;-)
