Trujjillo !
... I cant say that this sudden day off' comes as a huge letdown for myself -given that the legs are fairly worn out by now (though there are indeed good days, and week, :-).
My supportdriver had to take a bus the approx. 600km back to Peru's capital, Lima, to get the proper licenseplates and international insurence in order for us to cross the border into Equador in about 20days from now. Yes, there is always some interesting' things which suddenly pops up in South America and even detailed and proper researched plans turns out to be pushed to the side easily ;-) One will have to see the positive:
Today it was an oppotunity to give a small impression in pictures of a larger South American city - not only the glossy touristy side, which you can see at the fron-page photo - but likewise the more dodgy sidestreets which makes up more of the soul' and ambience of these cities in all their diversity and extremes from amazing historical heritage to almost despair and struggle to get by.
Trujillo is also one of Peru's oldest cities, dating back to 1535 when it was founded by the fairly bloodthirsty spanish conquistador Pizarro. Though the archeological history goes much further back to the pre-inca eras of the Huca Prieta (3500 to 2300BC) and later Andean civilizations. Luckily neighter its rapid growth, at present more than 600 000people, or an El Nino flooding in 1998, has taken away the archeological sites. And this speaks much to Peru's honour to be able to keep up the heritage for all of us to experience and enjoy - despite the problems the contry have to struggle with in modern times.
