Towards the tropics..
Today was one of the first days since the hot summer running across the Argentinian pampas about 3500km ago that I had really warm weather. It has been a pleasant surprise that the temperatures here in the Atacama Desert in Chile has been almost ideal for running: 14-20c and clear. Not exactly what I am used to when running across deserts, for example the up to 50c when running across the Australian Nullabor desert in 2004 or the up to 53c when running across the Sahara Desert in 2009 in Africa. This desert is definately the one to choose if one goes for the best conditions, But, the traffic is due to the Panamerican Highway which cuts through it, brutal compared to the enjoyable almost meditative silence of the other deserts, when one sometimes doesnt hear any other sounds than that of the runningshoes for days (and ok, the supportcar when it starts up and drives 5km ahead ;-)
But now I am beginning to approach the tropics and thus the temperature is definately rising quickly. I wonder if I will be able to reach the highlands of Equador before it gets above 40c ? I dont feel like I need another session of getting `fried on the tarmac` - one does get older and more comfortable... !
NB: The gps hasnt worked properly the last few days ! I am trying to figure out what the problem is. So far it only randomly - if at all - gps-stamps the pictures and the endomondo system doesnt start up at all. Jamie will fly in from Santiago in about 5 days with a new unit since this part of the documentation is crucial and I dont think I can fix the electronics out here in the desert.
