A good day in the desert !
As you have probaly noticed the distances are seldom the same when I run though more challenging continents as Africa or now in South America; the amount of energy which goes into setting up tentcamp after the daily running, finding and maneaging supplies and in some cases energy spend on tropical diseases limits the km's a bit - but are also a part of the challenge and a part of experiensing the continents step by step as they are; and not just the "tourist version" with all the comforts applied :-)
Once in a while though, I do get myself setup to put in a decent amount of kilometres. And today was one of those days, getting a 70km run done :-))
Very very enjoyable, since I am afterall an ultrarunner (believe it or not after all those days running '30ties' kilometres on the daily stages ;-) and what I treasure is the silense, the inner dialogue and contemplation while running all day. The way the scenery and nature changes, seeing the sun rise on the sky, the temperature pick up (a bit too much today perhaps, as it got around 38c. at 1pm.), slowly decend and finally running into the night while the moon and stars light up the road ahead.
That is Life for an ultrarunner :-)
NB: This report is uploaded from a small roadside cafe in the desert so I doubt I´ll be able to send any pictures. In that case they will be uploaded when I reach Arica which hopefully will be by the 18-20 June depending how gentle the desert treats us :-)
