The confusion is still an if not welcome guest then atleast a little bit 'thrilling' guest in our small team: Our map shows one road as the right one, but the signposting showed something completely different when the main road two days ago went from a nice tarmac road to a twisty narrow rock/stone/sand trail right down by the waterfront of the Pacific Ocean.
With the steep mountainranges of the Atacama Desert to our immideate East, we dont really have a choice to change road if this trail turns out to be a dead end ! And our food and fuelsupplies is good enough for 3-4 more days of tenting out here in the remote areas, but not enough if we find ourselves having to backtrack to where the road divided ! So we definately place our Hope in the fact that somehow the coast must lead to the next city, Antofagasta, which should be just 160km further North.
But remote it is, and IF its a highway as our maps suggests - then its one of the less travelled kinds: as on my 45km run yesterday likewise today we saw 1 other car and met one other person (this time an old man at what looked like an abandoned shed down by the ocean).
Still; beautifull it is, which I hope you can enjoy once we get the chance to upload all the pictures from this scenic and very expedition-oriented part of the world run 2 :-)
