A few more challenges..
As it appears from the last few days reports, it meant a fairly big setback in motivation for the run that the Argentinian customs in Bournes Aires apparently has 'given' themselves the packet of runningshoes which I should have used for the streatch untill Peru - and running the next 4000km without shoes will be a bit of a challenge, as Im not much of a bare-foot-runner ;-)
But if one likes challenges, then now is the time to celebrate because the packet-surprise was followed by a few other things today:
From the moment I got up in the morning, I could feel something was was wrong w. the left achilles tendon. I am guessing that the main reasons is running with fairly worn out shoes as well as running on the banked gravel next to the road the last two weeks as the traffic is too dangerous for me to run near the tarmac itself. Though, I try with as carefull running as possible the next few days, short stages (that isnt a problem w. the motivation at present ;-) and will search my experience from the last 28 years of longdistance running to prevent the injury from intensifying and try to make it heal as fast and good as possible !
But... that was still not the end of the day.
After the halfway point today the supportcar got a flat tyre. No big news; that happened a week ago too. This time though, I am running towards fairly remote areas w. approximately 100km to the next city. So not likely to get the tyre repaired up the road. Thus: Back to Neuquen city once again. Though I have to say that the main effort there is done by Jamie (my supportdriver & cameraman) who voulenteered to drive back to get the repair done !
I - Ahem - stay at a roadside hotel meanwhile. And as it happens this hotel, the "Global Hotel", has swimmingpool, aircondition, ice-cream restaurant etc. !
SO, the day didnt end that bad afterall :-))
- Though, those who read yesterdays buddhist reference will have a cheap laugh on my account now ;-))) :-) !
