Entering Tarantula Territory !
On todays 45km run I reached the next region of Argentina, the Rio Grande province. And with that a sudden change:
The broad newly build hwy. w. pleanty of room to run on the tarmac rough-shoulder next to the road, gone. The neat little settlements w. recently updated shops, hotels & conveniences as well as a layer new paint, gone.
The replacement: a narrow warn down road apparently not repaired the last 10y. Settlements w. restaurants & motels; since long closed and abandoned !
As it happens the president, mrs. Kirschner, and the former president (her husband), comes from the provinces now behind me. And thus an obvious explanation..
Still it ofcourse could be so that because they maneaged their regions so well, they later became the obvious choice as rulers. Or it could be due to the oil findings in the previous areas.
Ill leave the choice of explanation open :-)
However this academic discussion was overshadowed within seconds as I saw one of the inhabitants of this region at roadside: A well-sized black and hairy tarantula, greeting me merrily, not at all scared or fleeing humans !
- If therulers feels like I (ARAGNOFOBIA !!!!), then I now know very well why this region has been left alone... ;-))
