Christmas running calender, day 18:
After nearly 3 decades of longdistance running; training, competing, reaching small goals and reaching high or even 'crazy' goals - one of the Joys has become the way running seems to dismiss social divides, class, income, education, race, religion, political differences etc.. In a race or in a grouprun there is - for the moment the run lasts - no divide between you and the runner you are running next to except the ability to keep up !
And I guess the knowledge of how hard a struggle (or sometimes even suffering) it is also for your fellow runner or competitor, creates a strong respect that reaches far beyond what differences you might have !
As long as the run or the race lasts you are "just a runner" - nothing else :-)
Today was no exception:
I was met at start by Philliph from Mozambique and while we shared litte in background or what place in the world we call "Home", it was one of the most enjoyable runs & enriching talks 'on the way' I have had in a long time !!
Philliph had first started running a few years back in his late 40'ties and takes most of the year off from training except before his 5, 10 and 1/2marathon races. But its not a matter of how Long you run or how Much you run - the 15 to 17km we shared had the joy of running w. a colleague :-)) THANKS for making it a great running day !!
By the way a day wich started w. everything else than running ;-)
... Filling in renewal forms to recieve a new passport as my present one is nearly full after running through 20 contries in wr2 sofar (as always I got Super' help from the danish embassy ! Much appreciated :-) , then doing a radio interview, then consulting the maps - and Philliph to find out that I ran the last 5km in wrong direction yesterday due to roadwork, then beeing approached by an eager priest, then tv-interview and for sports tv, then for childrens tv (but parents: dont let them run around the world just yet ;-)) then.. Then finally running :-)
