Christmas running calender, day 4:
One of the enjoyable things about running is that it can be one of the toughest matches you can give yourself - Even in boxing there is an opponent; in running its You that decides how hard the knocks\' are going to be. And its yourself, that stand between you & wictory !
- This makes for some remarkable battles on the very long distances :-)
And with a Hard fight often comes insigt into layers buried well benieth your surface.
.. Today was one such day !
The time is more than just unimpressive, almost 7h. for 40km.., ;-) And the stopwatch time not much better, more than 4h.
But behind that fact was a knock-out match to get through the steambathlike humidity. Ca. 3hours spent sitting in the supportcar at the rest/water stops every 4km. Looking at the new wound in the hand, drying out sweat and salt wich keep dripping into it. Wondering if this stage will ever get to an end so I can desinfectthe wounds, while each second explodes inside.
- Running at its best is an effortless flow; where Everything in your body seems to be working in sync.with a minimum of energy required as your efficient runningsteps propell you forward.
But days like today it isnt. Instead the reward comes with the warm inner feeling when the battle is over and you reached your goal despite wanting like anything to give in. And a deep tired peace settles :-)
The world run may be a match of this kind, sceduled for around 1000 rounds if it goes to the end (..the towel\' has been ready to be dropped a couple of times here in Africa, though ;-)
But the hardest of all matches are not runs like this: its the first time a runner sets out to do a long run :-)
