Goto: 2009-10-30 2009-11-01 Africa
2009-10-31:Distance today: 40.0 km (Accumulated: 17478.8 km)
Elapsed time: 03:54:19
Country: Africa
Start 09:08am. at white tarmac-marker, spray, "00 2800", 3km S. of Nicoadala village on the N1/N8-hwy to Maputo. 26c, few clouds and l. wind. Finish 14:02pm. At Mcel mobile signalmast in Millimane village/Millimane district, on the N1/N8-hwy to Maputo. 31c and same.
Finallya cool stage w. lower humidity. Great :-))
Reino from one of wr2's sponsors, Pyroll (he is chairman of the company group), is obviously beginning to adapt to the conditions and are now running the full daily distances w. me.
- Not a bad effort from a 64y.o. just arrived from Finland autumm w. below-zero degrees. If he makes it to Maputo (1500km down the road / 10.Dec) it will truely be a performance in Sisu !
While sharing the warm daily 40km of tarmac, I try to catch up on the language of our little 'road team':
- Kiitos (thanks), Huuva (Good/Ok), Itakeskus ! (place where you can buy chocolate)..
And the portugese spoken here in Moz. and by our good driver Senor Louiz:
- Bon Dia (good morning), Boa Tarde (good afternoon), Como Esta ? (How are you ?), Obligado (Thanks) etc.
... And while my swahili is escaping me, I quickly learn that here in Mozambique form' matter ! A "Bon Dia !!" as I run through a remote village in the afternoon is a 'No-No' ! Typically an old woman will kindly but firmly answer: Boa T.A.R.D.E. ! From the moment its 1min. past noon ;-))
Beeing from more unconventional Scandinavian background I must still say I love the Friendly and embracing attitude here in Mozambique !! :-)
