Goto: 2009-08-01 2009-08-03 Africa
2009-08-02:Distance today: 33.0 km (Accumulated: 15376.8 km)
Elapsed time: 03:30:10
Country: Africa
Start 12:08am. at rd.mark on stone "27, Beach Campsite 200m, Tourism Office 3km" 3km N. of Sadani, on the sandtrack to Sadani. 28c, humid, a few clouds and l. wind. Finish 17:26pm. At rd.mark on tree "B209" 30km W. of Sadani, on the connecting road from Sadani to the A14/main rd. 23c and same.
And then 'luck' strikes again.. ;-)
As we started the day, driving 60km to top up the fuel before we fealt ready to battle w. the remote coast road,
a) we were told that the area actually is an unsignposted national park, and.. We were required to pay 100usd. upon exit.
Too bad we wasnt informed that we had even entered. Its not exactly been a secret that I have been running here the last 1 1/2 day ;-)
b) to extend the 'fun' further, I found out that the costal track we are travelling, myself running and my supportdriver doing an awsome job for almost 5months now, .. is indeed leadingto Bagamoyo where we'r headed. But a bridge has collapsed on the last 40km giving a detour of 120km via the main road. 3 days extra running.
A bit past12 O'clock I was ready to start running; after a 2h drive to re-fuel, 1hour negotiating the parkfee from 100usd to 0 usd (the time in lawschool havent been totally wasted ;-), searching for an alt. route and re-programming' motivationally for the 120km detour.
After a humid run, where I saw fresh elephant/hippo footprints at a mudhole (see live pic. !) I was enough out of concentration to swich on the live-gps transmitting sys. while driving to our accomodation - so there is 1 to 2 min. of wrong tracking after the stage is finished at the gps-coded photo (of tree marked B209). Tomorrow the run will, asalways, begin where I finished (at B209). Sorry for any confusion !
Our accomodation by the way.. Ended up beeing two tents behind a petrol station. Sqeezed in between a mosque, drunken truckdrivers resting for the night and a few houses w. ladies on 'night duty'.
Another typical day at the office on wr2 ;-)
