Goto: 2009-06-03 2009-06-05 Africa
2009-06-04:Distance today: 23.0 km (Accumulated: 13905.8 km)
Elapsed time: 02:24:32
Country: Africa
Start 08:42am., at small rockpile 110km S. of Moyale, on the main rd. to Nairobi. 28c, allm. clear and l. wind. Finish 12:13pm., at small rockpile 133km S. of Moyale, on the main rd. to Nairobi. 35c and same.
Nb: very thinly populated areas and no signs usable for finishpoint location. Only option is to build rockpiles at roadside to mark the next days start (LifePilot sys. doesnt function here).
- Came down on the huge plain of the rock-desert after 12km today. 126km desert ahead to next settlement. A strong sidewind made it not too uncomfortable, but we can definately feel that we are very near equator now: once the sun is up the temp. races towards the high degrees and while I seldom run w. a cap its allmost a must' here as overheating lurks around the corner even when having water-stops every 2-3km like today.
Drowe back to Turbi village to spend the night there (andday; it got above 40c in the afternoon). Tomorrow we cant affort that option as we will be low on fuel untill reaching Marsabit. I think both my supplydriver and me are curious how we'll maneage after the stage tomorrow - there's no shade and hardly room to pitch tents among the black, sharp volcanic rocks covering every inch of the plain. Some creative thinking should solve that one :-) I have a few hours run to dwell on a solution.. ;-)
