Goto: 2009-02-21 2009-02-23 Africa
2009-02-22:Distance today: 53.0 km (Accumulated: 10745.8 km)
Elapsed time: 05:01:44
Country: Africa
Start 09:01am. At blue roadsign in arab language. 19c, allm. clear and l. wind.
Finish 15:32pm. At 3km past Kerma village. 28c and same.
The legs fealt better than in many monts so despite patches of deep sand and medium to firm dust and sandtracks most of the way it was a true joy to run this stage - so I put in a few extra km :-)
Interesting my backpacker crew had convinced me to try and eat a healthy serving of vegetables contrary to my usual canned food and chocolates. Perhaps there's something to it ! ;-)
After the stage we overnighted in the possibly worst excuse for a hotel room in Kerma, but the village itself was a great, relaxed and friendly experiense :-)
With good energy came the surplus to visit the museum ajacent to a 3000 to 2500bc ruin !
It told the archeological and cultural story of the Kerma area settlement, mainly the Kush period 5000 to 2500bc.
An interesting observation could be that the ancient inhabititants seemed to have been considerably wealthier than the present !
Also the attention to burialgifts and sceremonies had declined drastically: I have rarely seen as 'makeshift' graveyards than here; a metalplate askew in the ground or a piece of tree, all skattered randomly between villages. Far from the rich and well build round burial caves/ground holes of the past !
But.. Richness in Friendship and heart there is in abundance in present Nubian Sudan !!
