Restday in Luxor after reaching 10 000km mark yesterday; w. a short run along the Nile to keep the run non-stop for the world rec. attempt at the longest runw.o. days off (as well as the main rec.: North - South around the world).
I have been in this part of Egypt many times w. family, especially my grandmother who is as 'mad' about archeology as I am about long distance running :-)
(Since I was 3y.o. she has taken me for travels to exiting destinations and can still, at 95y., 'walk me tired' ! .. Probably the one to blame that I have an urge to embark on these expedition-runs ;-))
But having seen and experiensed the Valley of the Kings, Hashepsuths Tempel, Karnak, the Geeza pyramids, the Egyptian Museum in Cairo etc. several times; my favorite way of 'taking in the ambience/culture' is much more to run or walk.. down the small streets, around a few corners, where fewer tourists go and where not the main sights are - but where the daily life is lived !
That is my favorite way of travel allmost anywhere :-)
(soo strange to see the aircon. touristbusses goby filled w. white tourists who see a fraction of what the contry and culture is).
... But on the other hand I only see a fraction of all the sights inon the continents & contries I run. We all make choices :-)
