Finally reached Suez !
After 2 days run in the last, West, part of the Sinai desert I finally ran down from the 200-800m desert plateau to Suez.
- But not quite that easy.. :
I ran to the Suez Channel reached the water and, the usual police/military control. By now I've got accustomed to that this each time means unpleasanties in small or big amounts.
Sometimes just waiting while laughing about the scene by the officials. In this case gunpoint waiting, interested 'lending' of the mobile phone. Taking off with the passport. While seeing the ships go by across the 100m wide channel. Hard to keep up a smile and the friendly impressionthat were so strong in the other Arab contries.
Same scenario after 100m of sailing, on the other side. So sad we have to treat eachother this way for no apparent reason. Security ? I've luckily v. few times fealt not secure about the situation; namely in cases like this: young soldiers, sharp rifles, 'interest' in valuables.
I long for the next contry - and I miss my friends in the Middle-East !! :-)
But.. A story only has 1 side when its tv-news: here the locals guide me to a 10usd hotel takes time to show me the city, invites on lunch; refuses any payment !
So big difference - what to say :-))
