Goto: 2008-11-23 2008-11-25 Middle East
2008-11-24:Distance today: 20.0 km (Accumulated: 6984.0 km)
Elapsed time: 01:54:01
Country: Middle East
Start 12:30pm. at Otel Selcuk in Konya. 7c, heavy rain and l. wind. Finish 14:37pm. At Otel Selcuk. 9c and same.
Some gps-difficulties in the rain, the phone got a bit soaked untill it finally stopped working after about one hours running and several rounds around the SeljukFortress - dating back to year 800 to 900 a.c.
(The first hour of the run should have reached the live coverage fine, though !).
The rest of the day inKonya was spent stocking up our supplies, new running stroller tires for Sarah, spare tubes, running accessories and having a look at visa-logistics - where a new member has entered the world run Team:
May-Britt Hansen from denmark. May-Britt took 3.pl. at the danish 24h. championships (188km) in her first real ultraseason and is a member of the danish nat. ultrateam. But here her main quality is a determined persistance (wich isnt an unknown thing for ultrarunners, I think :-) along w. contacts in the Foreign Ministry; and some patience w. the temperament of a fellow Viking..
She will be working closely together w. the cornerstone of the logistics of wr1 & wr2 mr. Phil Essam from Australia, (see ultralegends.com !). The urgent tasks beeing visas for Syria, Jordan and Sudan. Obtaining a visa to run straight through Sudan will indeed be a challenge on level w. the daily running by Sarah and I ourselves -but running in this region is a chance to give a positive image of danish respect also for muslim values and a Great Challenge !!
