KIITOS SUOMI !!!!!!!
Standing at the top deck of the Viking Line ferry to Sweden; wind in the hair and the sunset ahead.
Memories of Finland. An experience of friendship unmatched by any contry I have ever run through; world run one and world run two so far ! There are many friendly contries and people in the world - far more than the pictures of conflicts each evening at the tv news lets us know (thats part of why I do this run) - but in two things Finland is the champion; in Sisu and in Friendly hospitality to endurence runners :-)
The Sisu: abundant endurence power we saw the perhaps strongest example of when we were invited as guests into the house of Parvo Johannes Nurmi. Thestrongest and most carismatic longdistance runner through history. Not only due to his numerous olympic titles and world records in the early 1920-1930'ties - but above all his shining example of pure dedicated sportmanship; a simple life, hard training and an unpretentious attitude. My only hero!
The Friendship: the abundant support we recieved EVERY SINGLE DAY IN FINLAND! The runners who shared the run through Finland w. us; the people who drowe supplies for us; our hosts!
Just a few names af so many..
Reino, Esa, Pekka, Pertii, Juha, Arto, Seppo, Heimio, Tero, Aimo & Anja..
KIITOS TO ALL WE MET :-)
