Today we run through Rovaniemi (approx. 59 000 inhabitants) and thus pass the Polar Circle, coming in from the North ofcourse. This means that today is the last day w. midnight sun !
And as you can see from the pictures we also passed "Santa Claus' Office" - in denmark we learn that he lives at Greenland, but apparently his enterprice is widespread ;-)
Also today was time for change of support driver. Arto have to go back to his maneager-duties and we say hello to Heimo Meriƶ ! Arto has done a great job and he joins the chain of people we miss :-)
During todays stage we had the pleasure of having many local runners join us. They came from two different marathon groups/clubs. One of the runners, a 2:30-marathon runner, made sure I got my share of speedwork done during parts of the short stage . I enjoyed it :-) .. I sometimes miss the speed I once had, some 15-20y. ago as a young longdistance runner :-)
During the stage we had time to discuss many subjects, ranging from Finlands running tradition especially Parvo Nurmi (my favorite alltime runner; leading runner at olympics for nearly 2 decades in theearly 1920 to 1930'ties) .. To discussion of renewable energy!
By the way the Finland support now even has a website (media links etc.). AMAZING !!!
