[last day of the New York SCMT 6day Race].
The end of a tough holiday !
- There are holidays where the sun always shine and a soft chair keeps you comfortable; and then there are holidays that begins with a 24hour non-stop downpour, then running along and under a couple of interstate highways - and ends with a tired pair of legs six days later. That was my holiday. And besides the highway and the rain then it was just to my liking :-)
The result, perhaps not so good a solid way under my usual performance: 400miles/644km for the 6 days of running, and a 4.th. place overall in the tough field of good ultrarunners.
But it was a joy to use the legs and running experiense 'pure' without having to navigate, use time for logistics, safety etc. etc. And to get inspired by excellent runners from places like Russia, Ukraine, Italy, Australia, Scotland, Canada and Usa. Certainly a change from the sometimes lone running along the side of the highways of the world.
Later I'll add more pictures and some surprising angles to this New York racing experience, including a 'limosine escape' to Manhattan: the oddity of landing amidst journalism of a busy New York (New York Times & a local blogger) mentality and the more contemplative Chinese approch to asking questions to a strange world runner :-)
But for right now... Yes you have probably guessed it - I have to run ! The world run continues and
Boston is only a few days of running ahead of where I left off at the highway 16 just South-West of it to take my 'world run 2 holiday'. In case you wonder - why isnt the 640km's added to the world run total km's: While it was a break and a holiday from the world run it also was a run in a circle, and therefore not forward progress towards my goal, atleast not in an outside physical way ;-) So the total km's remains at 34 746km - atleast untill I streatch the legs out and run my next km's Northbound, the 29 or 30. April.
NB: A BIG THANK YOU to runners from Siberia, Russia, that send me a very encouraging message during the 6day race. Its one of the qualities I treashure most from the world run's; to have friends that still keep contact after all these years (I ran through Siberia in world run one, 2004). You are still an inspiration to me and keep me running forward even here in world run two where I at times wish I was still amongst friends and fascinating nature in one of my favorite places on earth; the endless roads of Siberia :-))
