Brunswich Stew ?
..."According to local tradition, while Dr. Creed Haskins and several friends were on a hunting trip in Brunswick County in 1828, his camp cook, Jimmy Matthews, hunted squirrels for a stew. Matthews simmered the squirrels with butter, onions, stale bread, and seasoning, thus creating thus creating the dish know as Brunswick stew. Recipes for Brunswick stew has changed over time as chicken has replaced squirrel and vegetables have been added, but the stew remains thick and rich. Other states have made similar claims but Virginia's is the first. "
(according to one of the historical information-markers along highway one..)
- Wether it was the effect of Brunswich Stew, the beautifull spring weather or the fact that I am slowly making my way towards North and old running-friends from world run one, I cant say. But the pace today was better than its been in a long time:
3:30h. for the 40km in nice undulating terrain with the hills inspiring to put in an extra effort too :-)
