A short run, but very enjoyable as the steamy humidity finally seems to be getting less as I approach the ocean/the Carribean Sea :-) And one of those rare days where its the emails that determines how much time I have for the daily stage: It's time for Christmas Emails !!
- If I can find an internet connection anywhere, that is ;-)
Christmas calendar, day 22:
Todays injury prevention advice is perhaps a bit contrary to the christmas spirit, because its "Forget The Gadgets" :-) Its impressive how much the market for all kinds of running related gadgets and items has grown through the last 8-10years. The list of music players, gps-trackers, phones, video-devices, fancy clothing, special sunglasses (to make you run faster ? ;-) etc. made for running is longer than the world run one and two I imagine... And while I donesnt doubt that some of it make you feel better on short term while training - then on long term it seems to me it often makes you forget why you run:
The close contact and understanding of your own body and the nature that sourrounds you during your runs. That those two things are more connected than we have time to grasp in our busy lives in the big cities. Running can be much more than just 'stap on a set of headphones, start the gps, grab a few photo's on the way and chech your sms's meanwhile'... And the more focused you are on the running ITSELF the more you may not only enjoy the running at its core, but also be able to pick up on the signals your body constantly sends you during any given run - to make you perform better and avoid getting injured.
But it requires that you pick up' the signals over the music, the data from your gadgets and the risk of wether the fashion running clothes is looking in the absolute right way ;-)
Ofcourse, as you can see from the pictures I... ahem... do carry a gps-device, in order to document and track the run properly at all times on the way across the continents. And, somehow there is a camera involved, else where would the pictures come from ;-)) Still, besides this I do try to keep as close to "the nature of running" as possible to give me maximum joy from the daily stages. But I am definately fighting a match not to become more entangled' in gadgets than absolutely needed, as I guess many of us are :-)
