A bit of a hectic run..
- Because I knew that I after the stage had to hurry to Quito 150km further North to pick up Reino from Finland who will join the world run for the next 3-4 weeks.
- And because it was one of the worst traffic' experienses I have had in 1½ lap around the world in running.
Its a pleasure to reconnect with the silent runner from Finland. And I much look forward to sharing around 1000km of Equadorian and mainly Colombian road with him. Though a very chaotic stint to the rendevous point in the new town' part of Quito: My supportcar with its peruvian licenseplates was denied access to the innner city roads so the last 15km of the 5hour drive to the capital of Equador had to be done in a taxi which was swiftly hailed from the roadside (but in typical Equadorian style he was good at understanding the situation despite that I speak next to none spanish and the taxidriver spoke only one sentence in english "I. Dont. Speak. English" ;-)
The traffic, on the other hand, was no joy at all. I struggle to remember any part of the world where the driving is done as reckless as here. And with as much pollution. The gasoline is very cheap - half a tank' for about 10usd ! - but the downside is that the quality is very low. Octane 78' is considered "Super" ;-)
Only in Argentina have I experiensed the same apparent lack of understanding that driving, and especially busses and large trucks - is not a game but can be deadly. It appears to be beyond the drivers to understand. And the accidents I see at roadside sadly show the same thing !
NB: At the moment I am not able to upload the pictures from the stage. They will be uploaded w. a short delay depending on when I get the upload interface working again. But the gps-track is online and can be found at the endomondo-link at the bottom of the frontpage on worldrun.org
