Last day w. Des from the Hartenbos Running Club of Mossel Bay. He has set up the support during the last 5 days together w. other members of the running club, bringing out new runners to run w. me each day. Even the morning after most of them had been running a marathon (qualifying for the Comrades 89km later in the year) they still insisted in keeping me company during the stage !
When I wonder why they - as often the case here in S. A. - go to great lengths to support the world run, I got the answer that it was an honour to run with me. That may be the only point where I disagree w. them: its an honour and priveleague for me to share the run with hospitable & friendly runners like them ! :-) Truely an image of friendship and perhaps a lesson of what grand personalities can grow even in/ or despite the dangers wich often is the only news toreach us up in Europe - and not the stories of the amazing South African hospitality :-)
Another example of this hospitality is that I've been accomodated the last 4days at the 4star Mossel Bay "Point Hotel" (www.pointhotel.co.za) right at the ocean front, waves breaking at the cliffs only a few meters from my room. Free of charge by curtesy by the hotel owner ! Quite a change from the many nights spent in the expedition tent through East Africa :-)
