2010-01-21:Distance today: 40.0 km (Accumulated: 20109.0 km)
Elapsed time: 03:50:03
Country: Africa
Start 09:50am at green rds. "Little Flower Mission ->" at Qumbu, 58km N. of Mthatha on the N2 to Cape Town. 19c, cloudy and l. wind. Finish 14:14pm at blue rd.-marker "N2-19, 16,8E", ca. 19km N. of Mthatha on the N2 to Cape Town. 29c, half cloudy and same.
After yesterdays short 20km stage due to stomack pain I wanted to 'show myself' that I was able to get back to normal distances right away. Forgetting that the second-mostimportant rule of a run like this is to Listen to the Body & Respect its signals (1. rule: planning, preparation & more planing - very far from the 'Forrest Gump' image of "just run" if you want to succeed these long runs ;-)
But today I maneaged to close my eyes to the 2. rule.. And ran the 40km w. fever and a sharp headacke; drawing a solid sweat, not only due to the sun.
26 years of competitive experience and 1 completed run around the world (world run 1) should have told me clearly to hold back. And certainly it tells me that the body will react to stupidity like todays 'push', if it isnt ready &in good health !
..I hope that the physique isnt too fragile this far into the run :-)
Tomorrow I should reach Mthatha - birthplace of Nelson Mandela!
