Jesper and i woke from our tents and both agreed it was like being on the moon..mist, arid, beautiful landscape and absolute silence. After a cold night and little sleep - but not as cold as in Finland (-21c in Ivalo on our route there, Hemio reports) - the running was, for me,challenging but very enjoyable. Many drivers stopped to say hello and offer gifts of food or water. It was dark when we arrived at Ayas but a very jolly shopowner, Ismail, offered a warm fire and tea, found us a room to sleep at mr. Salamis gasstation after we discovered no hotel in town. Such is the hospitality and warmth of the townsfolk. Sarah
