Saami Siida !
In this part of the wr2 the terrain changes every day ! Today we had our first glimse of grass fields among the low trees growing around the many stones and rocks of the arctic forrest.
The stage itself was short so Sarah decided to push the pace to 5min/km on many of the streatches between our food & water stops, tended by Pekka and sponsored by Reino :-) For my part I try to hang on to Sarahs pace and squeeze in a few documentation photos on the way to give an impression of the landscape and people.
Speaking of people: the original inhabitants of the area we have been running in, Finnmark / Lappland, are called "Samish". Their modern recorded history goes approximately 500y. back but they are believed to have inhabited arctic Scandinavia allmost 10 000y. back. Today the Samish nation exists across arctic Norway, Sweeden, Russia and Finland trancending the borders as they follow their basis of life: the raindeer. In total the Sami people count about 100 000 persons. Yet in modern times its hard to define who is Samish and who arent!
Yesterday Sarah gave an interview to the Samish radio who wants to follow the world run in Samish Finland.

NB: In yesterdays dataentry above the daily report I made the mistake of writing E45 - the correct roadname is E75.
